New Year, New Opportunity

15 Jan

Right about now is when most New Year Resolutions begin to fall off the books. Time, money, commitment, work, family, obligation – there are endless reasons why we can’t continue our resolutions. Fitness resolutions are usually one of the first to go. I get it. It’s hard to stay committed to a workout regimen when “real life” gets in the way. Missing out on that piece of your life, however, makes “real life” harder to live. let me break it down for you:

  • Energy: Exercise improves energy levels by strengthening your circulation and your heart, and in return, will improve your energy levels. More energy means you can focus on the things you need to do to make “real life” work for you.
  • Mood: Exercise promotes chemicals in your brain that improves your mood, and helps make you feel more relaxed. When you exercise, your brain releases feel-good chemicals called endorphins. Physical activity reduces anxiety and depression, and enhances self-esteem. Who doesn’t want to live “real life” with less anxiety?
  • Illness: Physical activity may help flush bacteria out of the lungs and airways. This may reduce your chance of getting a cold, the flu, or other illness. Exercise also causes change in antibodies and white blood cells, which are the body’s immune system cells that fight disease. Less sick time means more time taking care of “real life”.

Real life happens. We can help you get the most out of real life by keeping you physically and emotionally healthy. Join us today for a week of free classes, and see what all the fuss is about.

Consistency Matters

Consistency Matters
11 Oct

Any of my members will tell you that I like to talk about consistency a lot. It’s one of my favorite topics when it comes to fitness and nutrition, and that’s because consistency creates two things: measurement and accountability.

Consistency in your workout routine and nutrition planning allows for your results to be measurable. You can actually track what works and what doesn’t work, and make changes to ensure you are meeting your goals. How can you measure success if you don’t do something consistently? Secret: You can’t.

Anyone in the fitness industry will tell you that one of the biggest draws for personal training and group classes is that it creates a level of accountability that people just don’t get in the gym alone. When you have another person present to observe, provide feedback, and train you, there is an added layer of accountability that exists. This leads to a greater chance of success. And who doesn’t like to be successful?

Bottom line, the more consistent you are with your fitness and nutrition, the more results you’ll not only see, but keep. Give yourself 30 days to establish the discipline and the habit. Commit to consistency. The sky’s the limit on what you can achieve!

Delayed Onset of Muscle Soreness

Delayed Onset of Muscle Soreness
24 Jul

DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness) occurs 24-72 hours post workout. Caused by tiny micro tears in your muscles, DOMS is the reaction of inflammation in your muscles as they repair themselves. Some facts about DOMS:

*Proper warm up helps reduce the severity of DOMS. Increasing your muscles by just 1 degree Celsius makes a difference!
*DOMS is reduced as your body adapts to the exercise demand placed upon it. That is why new exercises and routines give you DOMS in the beginning, but it fades over time.
*DOMS is a sign your body is reacting to physiological stress, and it will adapt and become stronger and more ready to handle the stressors moving forward.
*DOMS will reduce your strength while your muscle heals.

Be patient! You are worth it and you will get stronger and better!
